  • How do I become a volunteer at NYULH?

    The first step in the volunteer process is to apply online by visiting our website.

    Once you have applied, we will contact those candidates whose interests and availability matches a current opportunity in our schedule to set up an interview.

  • What is the time commitment to volunteering at NYULH?

    The minimum commitment to volunteer in the NYULH Medical Center Traditional Volunteer Program is 9 months or 150 hours.

    This equates to one weekly 4 hour shift.  Summer volunteers commit to 3 months or 120 hours which equates to two weekly 6 hour shifts per week.

    For NYU Langone Health Long Island- Volunteers are required to service at least one shift per week for max 3 hours from teens and min 4 hours for adults (especially with limited areas since COVID). We are looking for a summer or school year commitment form high school and college students and a year commitment from adult volunteers.

  • What does the onboarding process entail?

    The onboarding process consists of interviewing, onboarding compliance clearances, orientation and training, which usually takes 6-8 weeks.
  • How do I apply for the Summer Volunteer Program?

    Our summer volunteer program requires a commitment of at least 3 months or 120 hours, which consists of two 6 hour shifts per week, though this may differ for each campus. Depending on the NYU campus you are applying to, the applications are accepted as follows:

    • Tisch Hospital, Kimmel Pavilion, and Hassenfeld Children's Hospital 34th Street: January 1 to March 31 (Applications for Summer of 2022 are no longer being accepted)
    • NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital: January 1 to March 31 (Applications for Summer of 2022 are no longer being accepted)
    • NYU Langone Hospital- Brooklyn: January 1 to May 31  (Applications for Summer of 2022 are no longer being accepted)
    • NYU Langone Hospital- Long Island: January 1 to March 31

  • Does the year-round volunteer opportunity have an application deadline?

    No, there is no deadline. We welcome you to apply at any time if you are not a summer applicant.
  • What is a Non-Traditional Volunteer role and how do I apply?

    Non-Traditional Volunteer roles are educational based, such as internships, research and externships.

    These types of Non-Traditional opportunities are facilitated through a separate department called, Human Resources Non-Traditional Volunteers or "HRNTV." They can be reached primarily via email at hrntv@nyulangone.org.

  • What is the age required to volunteer?

    All volunteers in NYU Langone Health Medical Center and NYU Langone Health Long Island must be 16 years or older to apply, NYU Langone Health- Brooklyn volunteers must be 18 or over.
  • Do I need prior hospital or clinical experience to apply?

    Prior hospital experience would be great, but it is not required.
  • Will I have an opportunity to shadow and interact with hospital professionals?

    All volunteers within traditional roles provide customer service type support to both staff and patients/visitors within the area that they are assigned to. While they may be privy to witnessing interactions between staff and patients, there is no formal observation (shadowing), and certainly no clinical experience afforded from these opportunities.
  • Do you offer PT/OT opportunities?

  • Do you offer central sterile, Phlebotomy, EKG or any hands on opportunities?

    We do not. All volunteers within traditional roles provide customer service type support to both staff and patients/guests within the area that they are assigned to.
  • Is there a cuddling program?

    Cuddling volunteer opportunities are available at NYU Langone Health - Hassenfeld Children's Hosptial (34th St) and NYU Langone Hospital- Long Island Campus.
  • Does this volunteer opportunity offer school credit or monetary compensation?

    Due to hospital policy, credits and pay are not afforded from this opportunity.
  • Would a job be offered from this opportunity?
